SENE 13 Changes 

After an extremely difficult selection process with having to pass on so many good films, we have decided to change our submission criteria for narrative features and documentary features. Beginning with SENE 13, we are focusing our narrative feature and documentary feature submissions on films which are either produced by filmmakers currently based in Southeastern New England, filmed substantially in Southeastern New England, or where the subject matter has a strong connection to New England that would specifically interest an audience from Rhode Island, Massachusetts or Connecticut. 

We realize that our submission numbers will drastically decrease, but, we have always been committed to recognizing films from or about New England and this change should increase the selection odds for our local filmmakers.

The submission deadline has passed, now what?

The submissions have finally subsided and we are now in full film-watching mode.  Phil and I are carefully reviewing each film and scoring details such as story, pace, editing, production, acting, direction, etc. Our merged scores will then be compared against the scores from the different genre committee judges. A few formulas here and a pivot table there and the data will show which films were liked by the majority and which ones are recommended for selection. I must admit that the judging process is enjoyable, yet stressful.  When I hit play, I am rooting for the filmmakers and hope that I can give the film high scores. In the end, it comes down to how each film compares against the other films submitted for the next festival.
